Description
The Advancing Infusion Therapy & Vascular Access Practice Education Bundle is offered in partnership with the Association for Vascular Access.
When you purchase this bundle you will gain access to (5) online education programs totaling 13 hours of infusion therapy / vascular access continuing education. These programs will be available for viewing through Infusion Knowledge University and will include the following titles:
- Legal Aspects of Infusion Therapy (1.5 hours): Legal issues abound in healthcare today! We live in a society that has seen a huge increase in medical litigation. Limiting professional IV therapy liability exposure would ideally be everyone’s concern. This course will review the major areas of risk for liability related to IV therapy practice, national infusion therapy Standards of Practice and recognized guidelines, as well as identify clinician interventions to reduce liability exposure. Legal terms and the elements of negligence will also be discussed.
- IV Medications & Fluids (6.5 hours): This course provides comprehensive evidence-based information related to the administration of IV medications and fluids. Methods of IV medication administration will be defined; potential drug incompatibilities reviewed; and specific drug considerations discussed. Specific types of IV fluids and considerations for administration will also be covered.
- Overview of Total Parenteral Nutrition (2 hours): Parenteral nutrition is a solution that is given intravenously to a patient who is unable to consume, digest, or absorb nutrients via the GI tract or those who require increased nutritional supplementation. This course provides a comprehensive overview of total parenteral nutrition (TPN). Content includes the history and development of parenteral nutrition; identification of appropriate patient candidates; composition of basic nutritional solution; proper methods of administration; troubleshooting and patient monitoring; and potential complications and recommended interventions.
- Implanted Venous Ports: Overview & Access for Use (2 hours): Learn the proper procedure for accessing and de-accessing an implanted venous port! Often referred to as a “VAD”, the venous port is a common vascular access device that may be implanted in patients who require long-term infusions. This course is designed to provide clinicians with an overview of implanted venous ports and includes a video of 2 live implanted venous port access (and de-access) demonstrations.
- Hypodermoclysis: Indications, Techniques & Infusions (1-hour): This course reviews hypodermoclysis, an alternative infusion method for hydrating fluids into the subcutaneous tissues for special patient populations (older adults and the terminally ill) who have limited peripheral vein availability. Content includes appropriate patient candidates, benefits, contraindications, recommended access devices, proper site assessment and maintenance, medical record documentation, and potential complications and appropriate interventions. It also includes a video demonstration of the hypodermoclysis procedural steps.
When the Advancing Infusion Therapy & Vascular Access Practice Education Bundle is purchased, you will be sent an email from Infusion Knowledge University (within 1-2 business days) with instructions and a link to access the above Infusion Knowledge online programs.
