PICC 103: Advanced PICC Placement: MST Ultrasound
This 4.5-hour session will discuss MST (Modified Seldinger Technique) PICC placement utilizing Ultrasound technology. This method of PICC placement is an important advance in PICC practice and is the preferred PICC insertion technique of the majority of infusion teams. Content includes the MST PICC insertion procedure; principles of Ultrasound technology for PICC placement; a review of portable Ultrasound equipment; potential MST PICC insertion complications; and simulated hands-on practice with portable Ultrasound equipment and PICC kit components. A post test will be given to assess learning.
Prerequisite:
A minimum of 1-year venous access experience, PICC 101 & PICC 102 (and/or approved equivalents).
Who May Attend:
RN’s, NP’s, Radiologists, Radiology Techs/Assistants, Physicians and Physician Assistants
NOTE: The practice of PICC Insertion must be performed according to an individual’s State scope of practice for their discipline and/or level of licensure. It is the responsibility of each participant to maintain his or her level of proficiency on an annual basis.
Contact Hours:
A Certificate of Completion will be issued to anyone who successfully completes this program, though Contact Hours are only approved for RN’s through Florida Board of Nursing provider # 50-998.
