This IV “Train-the-Trainer” course is ideal for nurses, clinical educators, vascular access specialists, as well as any clinician with experience in placing peripheral IV catheters and who are preparing to train or mentor others within their institution
The Peripheral IV Champion Preceptor Program (IV skills instructor course) is a specialized program designed to equip experienced healthcare professionals with the knowledge, skills, and instructional techniques needed to educate and mentor others in the safe and effective placement of peripheral IV catheters. This program focuses on developing “IV Champions” – clinical leaders who serve as in-unit experts, educators, and role models in IV insertion, maintenance, and complication prevention, including the incidence of catheter-associated bloodstream infections (CABSI) and hospital-onset bacteria (HOB).
The online portion of this program includes a 4.5-hour video presentation given by Kay Coulter, RN, CRNI, VA-BC followed by an optional 1-day Preceptor Workshop.

For those individuals who desire hands-on practice, we offer the online course followed by a 1-day PRECEPTOR WORKSHOP.
In this “optional” 1-day workshop participants will gain advanced proficiency in peripheral IV therapy practices, evidence-based techniques, adult learning principles, and competency assessment. Emphasis will be placed on hands-on skill development, simulation-based learning, and strategies for fostering staff engagement and improving patient outcomes by reducing the incidence of catheter-associated bloodstream infections (CABSI) as well as hospital-onset bacteria (HOB) – in preparation to become a Qualified IV Instructor!
