Many of our students obtain hands-on PICC insertion experience on-the-job at their place of employment, which is acceptable when documented accordingly. If your employer does not wish to provide PICC precepting or if you wish to gain PICC Qualification (PICC Certification) through Infusion Knowledge, Inc., we do offer hands-on PICC Clinicals that will provide precepted live insertions in an acute care environment.
This 2 or 3-day PICC precepting session will begin with observation/simulation and then continue with hands-on PICC insertions. Depending on how the nurse progresses and their comfort level with the procedure, there will be the possibility of up to 4 (or more) one-on-one, instructor supervised, Ultrasound PICC insertions utilizing the Modified Seldinger Technique (MST) and ECG tip confirmation technology. The nurse will receive a completed skills validation form with a written assessment of proficiency for each insertion performed.
Must be licensed as an RN or ARNP for a minimum of 1-year (with venous access experience) AND complete the Infusion Knowledge, Inc. PICC 101, PICC 102, and PICC 103 courses within the past 6 months. Our MST-Ultrasound PICC Clinicals are currently facilitated through St. Petersburg College.
Our clinical site generally has a high PICC placement activity per day. However, we cannot guarantee the availability of PICC insertions on any given day. For liability reasons, refunds will only be given if no live insertions are attempted.
Who May Attend:
Due to limitations from our academic partner and clinical site, we are only able to allow RN’s & ARNP’s to attend our PICC Clinicals. Must be licensed for a minimum of 1 year and have venous access experience.
2-Day MST-Ultrasound PICC Clinical – $2,400
3-Day MST-Ultrasound PICC Clinical – $3,600
The practice of PICC insertion must be performed according to an individual’s State scope of practice for their discipline and/or level of licensure. It is the responsibility of each healthcare provider to maintain his or her level of proficiency on an annual basis.
To Schedule a Clinical:
PICC insertion clinicals are scheduled upon request (a minimum of 6-8 weeks in advance) and are available in Clearwater, Florida. Nurses must meet all prerequisite criteria, as well as provide all required documentation before a clinical will be scheduled. NOTE: Date availability is limited.
If you are in need of professional liability insurance, we recommend you contact Nurses Services Organization.
